PEARL JAM BOOTLEGS ONLINE SERIES
The band has sold more than 13.5 million copies of shows since launching the bootleg series in 2000. The band had been open in the past about allowing fans to make amateur recordings, and these "official bootlegs" were an attempt to provide a more affordable and better quality product for fans. Pearl Jam noted the desire of fans to own a copy of the shows they attended and the popularity of bootleg recordings. The Pearl Jam "official" bootlegs are a large, continually growing series of live albums by the American alternative rock band Pearl Jam.

The tour concludes with two dates in Seattle, at the Key Arena, on Nov. The band resumes its North American jaunt on Wednesday at the Molson Center in Montreal. Since instituting that policy, the number of Pearl Jam bootlegs in the marketplace has dropped markedly, but five to 10 new ones still surface after each tour. "The spirit of the taping policy is for each person to have a personal memory of the show," explains another statement on the Synergy site. Starting in 1995, the band began allowing fans to bring hand-held, Walkman-style audio recorders to their shows. The decision to release the live discs was initiated by Pearl Jam to deter sales of expensive bootlegs. There are no plans to release any of the bootlegs, European or North American, on wax. As for you vinyl junkies, you're out of luck. No release date has been set, but the site says the discs won't be out until after Christmas.

"Both legs of the North American 'Binaural' tour will be released as Pearl Jam bootlegs as well." Like the European discs, the North American sets are reportedly being mixed by PJ sound man Brett Eliason, who also mixed and engineered the group's Live on Two Legs album. "There's no need to fork over those hard-earned bucks for some low-quality, high-priced bootlegger bootlegs," reads a notice in the Rumor Pit at Pearl Jam's Synergy Web site.
